About Amboseli

Amboseli National Park is located on the Loitoktok district south east Kenya, covering an area of 392 kilometer square Amboseli is not the biggest but it surely enjoys a wide variety of  80 species wildlife making it another exciting location to visit when you are in Kenya. Being only a couple of hours from Nairobi (closest safari destination to the city) makes a trip to safari not only enticing but also very cheap.

Amboseli has a distinguished seven habitats open plains, acacia woodland, lava-strewn thornbush, swamp, marshland, the Amboseli lake bed and the slopes of oldoinyo Orok. The park enjoys underground water flowing from Mount Kilimanjaro that bursts into the streams in Amboseli.

Amboseli is an all year round destination with plenty of wildlife roaming about throughout the year. During the rainy season (March to May) the basin at the center of the park floods attracting hordes of wildlife. Flooding of the basin sets up for an impressive wildlife showing as thousands of wildlife are drawn to the water making observing them very easy and their great numbers together creates a jaw dropping, heart-warming marvelous scene.

The National Park is teeming with a variety of wildlife species, it is famed to have a huge population density of elephants that are known for their huge tusks, Herds of Buffalos can be seen in the woodlands in their hundreds, shy leopards are lurking in the fringes of the woodlands, prides of lions prowl the grass plains in pursuit of luscious zebras, antelopes and gazelles, a lot of other gracious colorful prey graze along the park’s plains ear pricked up. Amboseli has about 400 bird species birds such as common redshank, Dickison’s kestrel, greater and lesser flamingoes, spike-heeled lark and many more occupy the park’s skies and grace the lakes shores.
