VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK

About Volcanoes

Volcanoes National park is a unique destination in Rwanda and the world as it is found about 15,000 feet high, a range of protected steep slope found in the grand mountain range that stretches across countries known as Virunga massif.

The National park is where about half of the world’s Gorilla population is found, golden monkey who are very fascinating themselves call the virunga home too. The name of the dormant volcanoes that make up the volcanoes National park are Karisimbi which at 4.507m is the highest, Bisoke with the verdant crater lake, Sabinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura are the other volcanoes in the volcanoes National park chain.

Activities

Tracking gorillas is the prime Volcanoes attraction. Trek through the lush green forest for about an hour and a half and meet up with the gigantic mountain gorillas, hiking and finally coming face to face is very magical and watching the gorillas maneuver and play around is even more climatic. You may also take a trek through the bamboos to experience the beautiful golden monkeys and witness their impressive antics

About Tsavo

In the coastal province of Kenya between Nairobi and Mombasa lies the largest National park in Kenya, Tsavo National Park. Tsavo is made up of a total of 22,000 square kilometers. SAMBURU NATIONAL PARK

About Samburu

OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY

About Ol Pejeta

Found at the foot of the snowcapped Mount Kenya, Ol Pejeta is a trail blazer of a conversation as it has achieved a lot in using cutting-edge technology that utilizes data in conservation and protection. The 364 square kilometer conservancy is highly recognized for its protection of two northern white rhinos. The park also has the greatest number of black rhinos in whole of East Africa.

Unlike other conservancies in Africa Ol Pejeta has been able to seamlessly integrate cattle farming with in the conservancy, this has benefited the land and wildlife through strategic grazing and has been a great source of employment to the natives.

Ol Pejeta gives its visitors a chance to live on the doorstep of a rhino sanctuary with a fenced 1,000 acre that has properties with a home feel for rent and further more you get to live with the endangered grevy’s Zebra and Jackson’s Hartebeest in this little paradise. Proceeds collected here are directly channeled to the conservation and community surrounding it.

Activities

Time to visit and Climate

Ol Pejeta is a conservancy so the animals and activities are actually all year round activities. However when it is dry around late September and early October and there are actually few tourist around it Is a very pleasant time to explore the conservation alone and undisturbed. April to May is rainy so the grass is green and beautiful and produces great photographs. July to September is also an ideal time for game viewing being dry and wildlife congregating around the water sources but it is very crowded since this are also summer school holidays.

The conservation has an average temperature of 13 ⁰C at the low end and it gets to 20 ⁰ C in the high (hot) times of the year.

Ol Pejeta Wildlife

The big five Lions, leopards, elephants, Buffalos and Rhinos call Ol Pejeta home. See the endangered grevy’s zebra, the two white rhinos and the Jackson hartebeest in the endangered species enclosure. Birders enjoy over 300 birdlife in this conservation which are enjoyed in the walks and bird watching explorations around the park.

Nyungwe National Park

About Nyungwe

Breathtaking, if you were to associate one word with this forested National park it would be breathtaking. Nyungwe national Park is a phenomenon of nature with beautiful diverse species of plants and flowers covering its many slopes. With 1,068 plant species and 140 orchids the park’s beauty is beyond compare.

The Park also boast around 12 primate species including 400 habituated Ruwenzori white and black colobus, chimpanzees that are in the mountain ranges are the park’s huge draw as it tops many tourists’ lists. Other animals in the park, large mammals to be precise are cerval cat, clawless otter, mangoose and leopaards however rare their sightings might be.

Activities

You may hike in Nyungwe and track the primates, this is on top of many travelers’ lists who make it here. MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

About Maasai Mara

Sprawling savannah plains, a major river crossing and diverse wildlife that rivals its neighbor Serengeti, Masai Mara is one of the best places for a safari in Kenya and Africa. Found south of Kenya, North of the legendary Serengeti, the 1,510 kilometer square reserve is a stretch of rich savannah dotted with acacia woodlands with riverine forests, thickets and some croton scrubs.

Temperatures are the same all year round with going around 25 ⁰C during the day and going as low as 3 ⁰C during the night.

Masai Mara wildlife

LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

About Lake Nakuru

Found on Kenya’s Great Rift Valley corridor, The Lake is a phenomenon destination that has been cited by UNESCO as a world heritage site. The park is famed for the enormous number of flamingos on its shores however since 2014 the number of flamingoes arriving in the alkaline shores of lake Nakuru has dwindled due to the increase in the level of water in the lake making it no longer favorable for the pretty creatures, this is another saddening effect of climate change, with the efforts directed here, scientists have predicted that we might see the flamingoes grace the shores in the near future.

Other than the sparkling white birds Lake Nakuru’s 170 square kilometers is rich with fascinating wildlife and over400 bird species, both black and white rhinos are seen in mornings grazing on the short grass by Lake Nakuru, Rothschild’s giraffes and gazelles are seen grazing around the National Park too.

Being a couple of hours from Nairobi Lake Nakuru is often used as a stop over on your way to Masai Mara or on a voyage to Laikipa plateau and Mount Kenya National park, a night to recharge from an otherwise very long one way journey. A two day stay in Lake Nakuru is enough to fully explore the rift valley area.

LAKE KIVU & RUBAVU

About Lake Kivu

Lake Kivu adjacent to Rubavu town, is africa’s six largest lake with an area of 2,700 square kilometers and being a rift valley lake lake Kivu has an enormous depth of 485 meters. The lake covers a significant part of Rwanda’s western border to Congo DRC.

Lake Kivu is a very safe lake to freely explore, fish and do a lot of lake activities as there are no reported sights of hippos or crocodiles unlike other rift valley lakes.

Rubavu

Rubavu a town bordering the Lake at its north was once a colonial resort so its lined up with old mansions, hotels, restaurant and bars and being on the waterfront it is a great place to stay while exploring Lake Kivu and offer a dreamy sight in the sunrise and sunsets, so be sure to have delicious lake delights watering the, with a daiquiri, a perfect sundowner.

Activities

Apart from the normal exhilarating stuff that is done in the lake such as boat rides, diving and fishing, the adjacent town of Rubavu is the beginning of the Congo Nile trail of about 220 km down south to Rusizi town. KIGALI

About Kigali

The Capital of Rwanda is centrally located in this mountainous country. The Capital’s landscape is surrounded by hills and mountains making a remarkable scenic city. About Kenyan Coast
