About Maasai Mara

Time to visit & Climate

Masai Mara is very entertaining all year round, However birders come around November and april when the migratory birds are flying to masai mara, January to March has few tourists but wildlife is still available, july to October is when the migration spectacle docks upon masai mara.

Temperatures are the same all year round with going around 25 ⁰C during the day and going as low as 3 ⁰C during the night.

Masai Mara wildlife

 One of the best places in Africa for game viewing, Masai Mara has a great array of wildlife that will fascinate and entertain you. The National reserve boasts around 90 different species of large mammals and over 500 bird species. It also boasts to have a considerable amount of big cats in whole of Africa, highest population density of lions in whole of Kenya, Cheetahs and leopards prowl the plains in healthy numbers too. Zebras, Thomson’s and grants gazelle, oribi, Coke’s hartebeest and roan antelopes graze around the plains. Crocodiles and Hippos live in great numbers in the parks rivers. The wildlife numbers especially wildebeests and zebras swell considerably during the months of July to October when the migration reaches masai Mara.

The tons of birds seen flying around in the park include kingfishers, ground hornbill and the elusive pel’s fishing owl. Migratory birds arrive during November to April increasing birdlife significantly.
