About Ol Pejeta

Found at the foot of the snowcapped Mount Kenya, Ol Pejeta is a trail blazer of a conversation as it has achieved a lot in using cutting-edge technology that utilizes data in conservation and protection. The 364 square kilometer conservancy is highly recognized for its protection of two northern white rhinos. The park also has the greatest number of black rhinos in whole of East Africa.

Unlike other conservancies in Africa Ol Pejeta has been able to seamlessly integrate cattle farming with in the conservancy, this has benefited the land and wildlife through strategic grazing and has been a great source of employment to the natives.

Ol Pejeta gives its visitors a chance to live on the doorstep of a rhino sanctuary with a fenced 1,000 acre that has properties with a home feel for rent and further more you get to live with the endangered grevy’s Zebra and Jackson’s Hartebeest in this little paradise. Proceeds collected here are directly channeled to the conservation and community surrounding it.

The park is accessible by car which is only four hours from the major city of Nairobi, you can also fly to the conservancy. It is ideal to plan the trip to Ol Pejeta with a beach holiday either in the Kenyan coast or Zanzibar.

Activities

Ol pejeta conservancy has plenty of fun activities that sets it apart from any other destination in Kenya. In Ol Pejeta you will get an opportunity to experience a very unique and meaningful where you together with a conservator will track and learn about rhino’s life in Ol Pejeta.

Track the lions from their electronically fitted collars and learn how to read and analyze various data that comes from this collar, visit the last two white rhinos in the midst of the conservancy. Take a morning jog inside the park with a trained ranger, see some wildlife such as elephants and rhinos in your morning run in the wilderness. Cycling and nature walks are options in the park.

Time to visit and Climate

Ol Pejeta is a conservancy so the animals and activities are actually all year round activities. However when it is dry around late September and early October and there are actually few tourist around it Is a very pleasant time to explore the conservation alone and undisturbed. April to May is rainy so the grass is green and beautiful and produces great photographs. July to September is also an ideal time for game viewing being dry and wildlife congregating around the water sources but it is very crowded since this are also summer school holidays.

The conservation has an average temperature of 13 ⁰C at the low end and it gets to 20 ⁰ C in the high (hot) times of the year.

Ol Pejeta Wildlife

The big five Lions, leopards, elephants, Buffalos and Rhinos call Ol Pejeta home. See the endangered grevy’s zebra, the two white rhinos and the Jackson hartebeest in the endangered species enclosure. Birders enjoy over 300 birdlife in this conservation which are enjoyed in the walks and bird watching explorations around the park.
