Akagera National Park

Rwanda's Only Savannah Park

About Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park is Rwanda's only savannah park — a mosaic of open grassland, dense woodland, and a chain of lakes along the Akagera River on the border with Tanzania. After years of post-genocide instability, the park has been transformed by a landmark community partnership, restoring lions and black rhinos that had been absent for decades. Today Akagera offers a full Big Five experience within a park that is genuinely improving year on year.
